WHERE DID IT ALL START?

Documented evidence of the Laragy name can be found in the Rosemont Chapel, Tubber, Moate, in Ireland, dated from the early 1800s.  Under 'Name History' a discussion of the origin of the name reveals a possible French connection.  Formal church records in Ireland begin at the start of the nineteenth century.

While alternative spellings exist, such as LaRagy and La Ragy, a search of Irish church records showed the spelling as Laragy.

As expected the name has many pronunciations. The Irish use a soft "g".  Whatever the spelling or pronunciation, the roots of the name are the same, originating from the County of Westmeath in Ireland.
